Researching Legislators and Committees in FastDemocracy

Fastdemocracy
Sometimes it's helpful to look up additional information on legislators and committees. For example, you might be asking yourself how a legislator has voted on your issues. Using state websites, this kind of research would require combing through thousands of voting records, but with FastDemocracy, this kind of research is a breeze
Reviewing Legislator Profiles

Navigate to FastDemocracy

Hover over "Legislators & Committees"

Click "Legislator Overview"

Select the state you need (if not already selected) and click on a legislator

You'll see a detailed profile for that legislator. At the top, you'll see the position, party and district

To see the bills sponsored by the legislator, click "Sponsored Bills"

To search voting records, click "Voting History"

The "My Tracked Bills" section shows you how a legislator has voted on your tracked bills

You can also click on one of the topics to see how the legislator has voted on that

Or you can type any keyword and press Enter. This will find voting records related to your keyword

Type " [[enter]]"

You can also check out news stories and tweets about a legislator

You can even find a Contact button to quickly contact a legislator about anything you need

The legislator's website, email address and office addresses are listed as well (if provided by the state)

Committee membership is listed below

Click "×" once you're done reviewing the legislator
Reviewing committees

Hover over "Legislators & Committees" and select "Committee Overview"

Make sure your state (or Congress) is selected

Click on a committee to review the members of that committee

All the members, and their roles on that committee, will be listed

The "Sources" section links to the state website(s) related to that committee
